Community representation

AFCA stands for the maintenance of a strong sense of community, with a tradition of participation, co-operation and self-help by local people and seeks to build on these strengths. AFCA believes that local people must have a say in the provision of government services and facilities and in the planning and development of Alphington and Fairfield, its parks, waterways and environs. It also believes that there must be a balance between the interests of local residents and wider state and national considerations in the development of Alphington and Fairfield.

Our focus

The primary focus of AFCA is:

to provide community representation to Darebin and Yarra City Councils, the State member for Northcote and Federal member for Cooper on a range of initiatives and issues, including the protection of the Yarra River and Darebin Creek and Merri Creek tributaries;
to have a proactive voice and involvement in the development of Alphington and Fairfield (through the affiliated resident association AFADA and the Heidelberg Road structure plan); and
to add to the amenity of Alphington and Fairfield through community events and projects.
